The Carrera Panamericana first originated when the Pan-American Highway was opened in the early 1950s. Nowadays it’s run mostly as a regularity race with some competitive closing stages, but the spirit remains the same. It’s the ultimate road race.
The Carrera is one of the world’s great road races, stretching over 3000 miles from Oaxaca in Mexico to Durango in Colorado. It is considered to be on a par with the Mille Miglia and Le Mans. Porsche have even named two of their cars after it.
Today, the race is a wonderful spectacle of old American muscle and classic European car design, all set against a stunning Mexican backdrop.
A picture never lies…
